SMILE FOR SMIDDY GARAGE SALE
The Smile for Smiddy Garage Sale last Saturday superbly led by Yas Grigaluinas raised $12,841 towards the Tri Alliance fundraising total for this year. As promoted it truly was the Worlds Biggest Garage Sale especially when you consider there were still quite a large amount of items left over at the end of the day.
Yas and her family did a great job in coordinating and making it happen. They were tireless in their efforts and their passion and drive was inspiring to all those around them. It was also fantastic to see so many squad members assist on the day and in the days leading up to it. With an early start of 5:00am it was a 14 hour day for many of the team and their families and everyone’s efforts were hugely appreciated.
Thanks also to all the people that donated items. It was a great community effort and every cent raised will go straight to Smile for Smiddy.
Our next fundraising event for Smiling for Smiddy is the night with Anna Meares on the 6th of September. Anna’s story is very inspirational and she is donating her time on the night to help with our Smile for Smiddy fundraising campaign. ELITE & TEAM WEAR RACE GEAR
We are now taking orders for our Elite Rocket Science Race Gear range – including one and two piece race suits. To ensure these arrive in plenty of time for Noosa, orders will close strictly on MONDAY 26 AUGUST. Minimum numbers of 12 are required for male and female pieces so if you are wanting an order – make sure you jump online and grab yours – and encourage your team mates. If we don’t have minimum numbers we can’t order.
Our Team Race Gear Range has been fully updated and our new and improved range is of higher quality and at a great price, these are the ideal race suit for those new to the sport or on a triathlon budget. All sizes are in stock – so if you order online, you will receive within a week. So no need to wait for a pre order!
GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK
Two of our squad members are moving interstate. Bronwyn Vincent is off to Perth and Mark McDonnell is going south to Melbourne. Both have been with the squad for a little over 12 months and it will be sad to see them go.
We wish them all the best and hope to see them again some time in the future.
TQ DUATHLON
The first multi sport event of the new season is on this weekend. Now at a new venue at Springfield it is timed nicely especially for people wanting to have a hit out prior to the Sunshine Coast 70.3IM in 5 weeks.
We will have the Tri Alliance tent will be there for anyone racing so please bring along family and friends to watch. We’re told the new course is quite spectator friendly with a multi lap format.
After the duathlon it is as mentioned only 5 weeks to Sunshine Coast 70.3 IM, 6 weeks to the first QTS race at Kawana, 7 weeks to the Moreton Bay Tri, 9 weeks to Race 2 of the QTS series at Raby Bay and 12 weeks until Noosa.
For most people in the squad their key race of the first part of the season is either Sunshine Coast 70.3, Moreton Bay Tri or Noosa so the duathlon and the QTS races are a great opportunity to test your fitness.
COACHES CORNER
Each month Tri Alliance Queensland Head Coach Mark Turner will write a coaches corner article. As the squad grows in multiple locations and more members join, it will be a chance for members to keep up to date on all things coaching and training.
The first coaches corner will be out by the end of the week.

NOOSA TRAINING CAMP
We still have one spot left for the Noosa training camp next weekend for either 2 or 3 nights. All abilities are catered for and the long range weather says it is going to be a great few days. This is our last camp for this year so if you are interested please e-mail [email protected]
TRAINING AND EVENT REGISTRATION APP
In the coming weeks we will be rolling out the use of a smartphone App for registration at all our training sessions and the purchase of event tickets. The App allows you to register at a training session as well as pay for the session if you are a casual member or use a 10 pass card.
From Monday 12th August the App will be in place at all Gold Coast sessions. All athletes have to do to prepare for this is to download the app ‘Bucqi’ for free from the app store and complete their registration. All athletes on social and unlimited memberships will receive a voucher through the app that allows them to sign in to sessions with their membership.
We expect to start using the app in Brisbane from the 16th September with purchases for events such as the Noosa Triathlon Saturday breakfast and after party available prior to that.
