Tri Alliance kicked off their pre-season racing last weekend at the Victorian Duathlon Championships on Sunday 2 October, with 25+ athletes racing to be the largest squad racing and taking away 6 podium finishes amongst them. Tri Alliance Coach Emma-Lise Donati said of the event:

“Even though we are still 6 weeks out from the start of the season, our athletes couldn’t wait to get out there for race practise and everyone raced extremely well! The Duathlon Series is a great season opener for triathlete’s to use as race practise – and for athletes to take away the title of Victorian Champion is a bonus!”

The following week Tri Alliance again took on another major event in Victoria – this time being the Melbourne Marathon, incorporating the Melbourne Half Marathon, 10km and 5km events. Tri Alliance had a huge participation rate, with 50+ athletes competing in all distances – the most popular being the Half Marathon.

Tri Alliance Head Coach Ollie Allan boasts of his teams achievements:

“We are beside ourselves with the amazing results our athletes have achieved. Of our 50+ athletes who competed in the Melbourne Marathon events, 95% of them recorded personal bests – surprising themselves on what they were capable of!  After a long 6 months of winter season training, our athletes are now in top condition to start the triathlon season next month and we can’t wait!”

Tri Alliance in conjunction with CBD Cycles also supported the event by offering non-participating athletes the chance to ride as ‘lead and tail riders’ for the event. These places were quickly snapped up by Tri Alliance athletes and was a great experience for athletes to be a part of the event even without running.  Tri Alliance athlete Lidia Ursini said of her experience as the tail rider for the Melbourne Marathon:

“I had an awesome time yesterday even though I had close to 6plus hours on the bike the tail end of the marathon had some amazing inspirational people I have ever meet, especially Dean – one guy in a wheelchair I helped coach and keep him motivated until the end, and also keeping his mother updated with his progress and safety along the way. Thanks for the opportunity!”

Tri Alliance now has its sights set on another big Triathlon Season with athletes racing all over Melbourne and the world. For the last two years running, Tri Alliance has taken away the honours of the SuperSprint Tri Club Competitionand will be back to defend their title again this year.
