1. WORD FROM THE COACHES
A great finish to the short course season was had at the final Gatorade Triathlon Series of the 2015/16 season. With a large number of our athletes racing it was great to see so many out enjoying and racing well. With great results across the board pb’s were set in all races from OD,Sprint, Mini and Aquabike. The weather was good with a cracking tail wind on parts of the bike making for some good top speeds – it was just a little harder coming back! We had repeat offenders of Hilario and Sonia gracing the podiums in their respective races with Jonney, Narelle and Paul B winning their Sprint races. Narelle doing so after not having raced a sprint for 4 years – well done and welcome back to the short stuff!
In the Gatorade series Hilario took out top honors with Kat H and Sonia both taking the runners up spots. In the mini series Lee and Steve H won their age groups with Kelly D and Steve B taking 3rd in theirs.
Well done all who raced this season, if it was your first full season or indeed race. Take pride in what you have achieved and have a look back at where you have come from. As coaches we love seeing the improvements and personal bests but getting to the finish line for some is far more important. You all contributed to another amzing season and we cannot wait (after a little RnR) for the next one. Tri-Alliance came second in the club cup so it’s all hands on deck for the top spot next season. 🙂
APRIL RECOVERY AND TRANSITION MONTH
For those who have now finished racing recovery is key before the build to next season. Read more about what is going on and the events coming up to help you get there below. Please note that the Coffee and Cake Rides are all abilities so a great time to come along, meet other guys in the squad and have some nice food!
As the weather cools down do ensure you are dressed appropriately for the sessions especially as we will be hitting the hills in the months ahead on the bike. Layers are key to be comfortable during this time. For a full range of gear jump on the TriShop here
END OF SEASON PARTY
Bookings are now available for the Lorne Camp over the Queens birthday long weekend of the 10/11/12/13 June. For this all abilities camp we will be staying at the Lorne Life Saving Club giving great easy access to the Great Ocean Road for our rides and the trails and foreshore for a variety of runs. Read more here.
Please do ensure you check the timetable and our Victorian Facebook page for training updates during this recovery and transition period as we have changed a few sessions and sometimes have to change at short notice. The main change is that there are now no Elwood combo sessions on a Thursday or Saturday with these being replaced with running at the Tan on Thursday evenings and riding only on a Saturday morning. Click the session on the calendar to give you more details including time and location.
With the end of the season now here for many of our athletes we are now in the recovery and transition period.
This is a very important time of the season where you need to unwind, rest and recuperate. Sessions should be fewer and much less intense to give tired bodies the rest that they deserve. If you have any questions about your own recovery or program please let your coach know and we can work through it with you.
The timetable does look busy but we do still have a number of long course athletes training for races in May and June.
This recovery & transition period we have the following:
- Goal setting sessions
- Thursday 21st April [For those new this season and those who have not attended one of these sessions before]
- Thursday 28st April [For those who have been racing for a number of years or have attended these sessions in previous years]
- Coffee and cake rides
- Saturdays 16th, 23rd and 30th April
- Sunday activities
In May when athletes have had some down time and are looking towards the new season we will be looking at introducing skills sessions on the bike, some bike maintenance as well as strength and conditioning and nutrition/body management.

When out riding please do so safely and pay attention to all the road rules and others using the road. Read on for a guide to cycling etiquette and bike road safety and ethics.

When riding on a Tri-Alliance coached road ride it is a requirement to wear team colours. This helps keep and identify the group together and provides more safety in the fact that other riders from outside the group are less likely to join in the group – we do not know them or their riding abilities. top
