TRI ALLIANCE SMIDDY FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Our launch night for the Tri Alliance Smiddy fundraising campaign was a great success.  Rowan Foster and Mark “Sharky” Smoothy from the Smiddy Foundation took everyone through what the Smiddy Foundation actually does and where the money raised goes.

Both avid triathletes and personal friends of Adam Smiddy who the foundation is named after explained the history behind the foundation, the different events they have and their future goals.

We also had one of the researchers from the Mater Medical Research Institute speak about Prostate Cancer and some of the work they’re doing to help beat this disease.  We realised that one in 9 men will get prostate cancer which is quite frightening.

The fundraising was kicked off when we gave away a pair of Mizuno Shoes and 2 free entries to the next QTS race at Raby Bay on December 16th.  So after only a few days of fundraising we already have $630 towards the total.  At that rate we’ll certainly reach our goal of $100,000 by the Noosa Triathlon 2013.

The Queensland web page for the fundraising is at http://www.smiddyfundraising.com.au/tri_alliance_queensland

Athletes interested in fund raising just need to click on the ‘Join this Team’ link on the page and enter the password TRIALLIANCEQLD (case sensitive) and then create their own individual page.  If you commit to raising a certain amount of funds you can receive up to 4 months of free squad training.

Over the next few weeks we’ll announce some different initiatives and squad events to raise the funds required.  If you have any ideas please feel free to contact us.

FACEBOOK PHOTO COMPETITION

Thanks again to our friends from Shoes Feet Gear for providing the $50 voucher for November’s facebook before and after competition.  Brett Harris from Elite Sports Massage has chosen Andrew Callow’s amazing transformation as the winner.

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos.  The differences were amazing so it was very hard for Brett to pick a winner.

This month’s competition is the best at work photo.  With so many varied professions within the group it should make some very interesting photos.

TRIATHLON QUEENSLAND CLUB CHAMPS

The next race of the Triathlon Queensland Club Champs is the aquathlon on January 20th at Southport.  We are leading at this stage but with Red Dog and many others clubs are hot on our tail and putting pressure on.

We need as many people as possible to race under the Tri Alliance banner to maintain our lead heading into the final event at Redcliffe on April 7th.

So if you’re having a break over Christmas be sure to join us back at training in January as we get ready for the Aquathlon and all the other events following that.
