Our first beginner course for 2013 started on Tuesday morning with 26 eager participants going through their paces with coaches Ray and Chris. They will finish their course with the QTS Raby Bay event on Feb 24th.
This morning they did their first bike skills session with Brad and on Saturday a bike maintenance seminar at Cyc’d for Bikes.
We would like to welcome all of them to Tri Alliance and look forward to working with them over the next 6 weeks.
CAIRNS IM AND 70.3 IM INFORMATION NIGHT
On Monday January 28th we’ll be having an information night for the 60+ members competing in the IM and 70.3IM events at Cairns in June. With such a big crew training and competing for the one event it requires some planning so we will be covering the training plan, key dates including camp and information around the course.
Daryl from Shotz will be coming along to speak about the importance of getting your nutrition right on race day. Shotz are a major sponsor of current IM World Champion Pete Jacobs and Daryl has worked very closely with Pete to get his race day nutrition perfect.
We’ll also have Rowan from the Smiddy Foundation talk briefly about our fundraising campaign and helping us towards our goal of raising $100,000 by Noosa this year.
Even if you’re not doing Cairns IM we would invite you to come along as much of what will be covered will be relevant for all long distance events especially the talk from Daryl.
It will be from 5.30pm at the Mater Foundation offices 588 Stanley Street, South Brisbane. An event will be created in the Tri Alliance facebook page.
The Mooloolaba Camp spots are filling fast. If you’re doing Mooloolaba it is a great way to get in some specific training for the race. If you’re not is a perfect opportunity to get in 3 days of solid training to boost your fitness for the remainder of the season.
Remember all abilities are catered for so if you would like to attend please e-mail [email protected] to reserve your spot.
COACHING AND SESSION CHANGES
There has been a couple of coaching roster changes for the start of the year. As we continue to develop our whole coaching team it means that we give them exposure to different sessions to further improve their skills.
On a Friday morning Ray will now take over from Brad and coach the beginner/intermediate swim session. On a Wednesday morning Brad will take over from Mark and coach the main squad bike session.
On a Tuesday morning Tim Franklin will assist Mark at the main squad run session. Tim has been doing a great job leading the Thursday morning run session and will continue to do so.
We als welcome Chris Bierton to the coaching team. Chris has just completed his level one coaching course and will be assisting Ray with the beginner course run sessions to start with. Chris will also be working with different coaches at all sessions to further his experience.
On the Gold Coast the calendar will be changing to the impending closure of the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. Swimming will now be on a Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Runaway Bay Super Sports centre. The wind trainer and track run sessions will change to Monday and Wednesday nights. This change will take effect after the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre closes in mid February.
We are continuing to develop our website and currently the athlete log in area is in a testing phase. We’re also further developing the shop part of the website to streamline orders.
We thank everyone for their patience with this. When it is completed it will certainly benefit all Tri Alliance members.
SAMAO HALF IRONMAN
If you’re after a different race experience one of our coaching team Ray is heading to Samoa in August for the inaugural Samoa Half IM. You may recall Ray went back to his native Samoa last year for their inaugural ocean swim series with some gifts for the local kids.
After the success of the swim series the organisers are now doing a half IM. It could be a great event to keep you training through winter. Contact Ray on [email protected] for further details.
On the subject of IM WA we have a race report from one of our Tri Alliance Ambassadors Claire Schneider. Go to http://qld.tri-alliance.com.au/2013/01/17/ambassador-blog-claire-schneider-3/
