IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, KONA!
Only a few more sleeps until the start of the 2012 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii and the atmosphere is really starting to build. You walk out your front door and the roads and footpaths are covered with athletes. The Ocean is awash with arms and legs practicing over the swim course and the cafe’s are full.
Those new to Tri Alliance or Triathlon, the distance of an Ironman is more than most can comprehend. A 2.4 mile (3.8km) swim, 112mile (180km) ride / 26.2mile (42.2km) run. Yes athletes run a marathon AFTER swimming and riding those distances. And they will be doing it in the sweltering, humid heat of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. This race “presents the ultimate test of body, mind and spirit to earn the title of IRONMAN.”
