TRY THE TRI COURSE – LUKE HARROP TRIATHLON
At the recent Luke Harrop Triathlon we had 28 people complete their first triathlon at the end of their 6 week Try the Tri course.
Along with many of the current squad members racing it was a great day out that finished with a bbq and drinks at the tent after the race. Additionally $12,000 was raised for Smile for Smiddy with their team also competing their first triathlon after finishing the course.
That course was the last for the 2013/14 season. The next course will be later this year leading into the first QTS race in October.
We would like to congratulate the participants from the course for completing it and welcome them into the squad. When you see them at training be sure to say hello and make them feel welcome, we were all beginners at one stage.
SMILING FOR SMIDDY ACTIVITIES
BBQ & Beer Donation Drop-off Day
On Saturday 3rd May, the Smiddy Challenge riders are holding a BBQ & Beer Donation Drop-off Day at Leigh & Yas’s place in Kedron. It’s a great opportunity to clean out your unwanted excess items laying around the house and over-crowding your cupboards. All items donated will be sold at the World’s Biggest Garage Sale event in July this year, where we are aiming to make a big dint in our Tri Alliance target of raising $100,000 for Smiling for Smiddy this year.
Feel free to bring along anything and everything you no longer want or need (clothes, furniture, toys, sporting goods, manchester, everything!!), or just come along empty handed for an overdue catch up with your Tri friends.

The Finishers Movie
On Sunday 18th May at 3:00pm, the Smiddy Challenge riders are holding a movie event at The Palace Cinemas, to watch an inspiring movie for all triathletes called ‘The Finishers’. If you haven’t already seen the trailer for this movie, it’s a must watch! Set on the Ironman Course in Nice, a wheelchair bound son with cerebral palsy challenges his father to participate with him in an Ironman event. An Ironman is tough enough, but it becomes nearly impossible if one has to help a disabled youth throughout the course.
The characters are inspired by the true story of father and son duo Rick and Dick Hoyt. Their story is awe inspiring and you can learn more about their journey by visiting the Team Hoyt website: http://www.teamhoyt.com/

This year the Smiddy Challenge riders have put together a fantastic event shirt for the Cairns Ironman event. With support from Tineli, the official supporter and supplier of the Smiling for Smiddy team kit, we have Men’s tee’s, Ladies singlets and even Tee’s for the kids available.
