WORD FROM THE COACHES
It is nearly November already – well into the middle of Spring. Yes Melbourne, Spring! That’s when the sun starts to shine and there is a spring in everyone’s step as the Vitamin D seeps into our bodies after a long dark and cold winter. Well that’s what’s supposed to happen! Instead in Melbourne, we are dealt with a couple of random warm days followed by a week of miserable wet days. And as we write this, the forecast for the next few days is just that. Cold and wet. Where is the consistency in that Melbourne? :-/
But no matter what the weather brings, it is important to adapt and get out and get the job done. Don’t let the hard work over winter be wasted effort. Look back at some of those tough training days and training camps. Even though its ‘supposed’ to be spring, don’t become complacent and expect the sun to shine. You could get anything – remember it’s Melbourne. So don’t let the weather dictate your training or your results. If you do, you will be up and down all season and you will not know what you will get race day….. (just like the Melbourne weather….)
Coaches Ollie and Sarah have arrived back in Melbourne and have already been seen out coaching over the past few days. If you have any specific questions for either Coach we ask if you can please PHONE the office. Â We still have a number of emails to get through after travelling back last week so may take longer to respond to emails. Contact the office on 9645 2223 10-4pm. See you at a session or two this week!
ATHLETE GUIDANCE V’s COACH GUIDANCE
Tri Alliance is proud of the fact that we have the largest number of athletes Coached in Victoria, and as such has a large network of athletes for each of you to training and race with. This also means that there are plenty of athlete to chat to and learn from. In saying this, sometimes there can be a grey area between athletes chatting about training and athletes providing advice on training.
When chatting to others about training, and when providing information to others, we ask for athletes to keep in consideration and remember that what works for one athlete does not necessarily mean it is right or works for another athlete. We know and understand that athletes mean well when providing advice to fellow athletes, but keep in mind that this could lead to confusion – particularly for those who are new, or a new to a distance. The marathon was a great example of this.
We have issues with athletes sharing their ideas and training and racing experience, however we always ask for athletes to seek specific training advice from Coaches should you have any concerns. That’s what our Coaches are here for.
DINNER TOMORROW NIGHT @ ELWOOD
Post session tomorrow night there will be a few athletes heading out for a quite bite to eat (for ease will most likely be Elwood La Porchetta). So if you don’t have anything planned, bring a pair of trackies adn a warm jumper and join us. Word on the street is we will have a suprise gust (or two!) joining us. So come along to find out who!
