With the last of the Melbourne races completed on the weekend in Brighton, 90% of our athletes have now finished racing for the season – this does however leave 10% who ARE still competing and with big races ahead! We also had a number of athletes race on the weekend in Mooloolaba, Brighton, Great Ocean & Otway Ride and Albury Wodonga Tri and this weekend is the TriMan event in Torquay and the Oxfam Trailwalker. So still plenty happening in the world of triathlon!
There is still so much happening at the moment and we are in full swing planning and developing our winter season program. Also don’t forget about our Presentation Night, Lorne Camp, April Timetable and more! Read on to make sure you don’t miss out on any important information.
BBQ after tonight Run/Swim at Elwood!
Tonight’s session at Elwood marks our last training session there for the year. With daylight savings this weekend (don’t forget!) and the weather slowly getting colder, our Thursday nights move back to Albert Park/MSAC. So make sure you get along tonight (RUN/SWIM ONLY – NO BIKES!) and enjoy a social catchup over a sausage after training. BYO your own drinks.
Also DO NOT FORGET that this weekend see’s the change over of our Saturday sessions to a RIDE and Sunday’s ‘FunDay’s! So make sure you check out the April Calendar’s to ensure you do not turn up to the wrong place at the wrong time!
A reminder that Coaches Ollie & Sarah will be away overseas from Monday 4 April – Monday 2 May. During this time we will be un-contactable, however John and Emma will be holding the forte, and can assist you with your needs. Our other coaches will also be on deck at a number of the training sessions. Only in an emergency will John contact us – we will not have access to email or phone calls, so please be mindful of this. We appreciate that for some this may not be good timing if you are still racing, however as you can appreciate coaches need some time off too! John and Emma are both extremely knowledgeable so you will be left in good hands!
** Please also note that the Weekly Transition will be ‘fortnightly’ during the month of April only.Contact Details: Phone: 1300 680 874 Email: [email protected]

GOAL SETTING WORKSHOP – Presentation
A big thank you to everyone who participated in our goal setting workshop on Saturday. We had 90 athletes go through the goal setting process, leaving many walking away with lots to think and inspired to finish their goal setting! A big thankyou goes to Coach Greg for conducting the sessions, his professionalism and communication of such an important topic was excellent and I’m sure you will agree has left you all motivated and ready to take on the next season and your new challenges! Should you feel like you need to discuss your goals with us further, please don’t hesitate to contact one of our coaches in the office on 9645 2223.
If you want a recap on the workshop, or for those who missed it, please find the presentation in your athlete toolkit under ‘information’.
LOG IN HERE to view the document. The document can be found under ‘Programs – Information’. So if you haven’t already, get goal setting!!
On behalf of all the coaches at Tri Alliance, we look forward to helping you all reach your Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, Trackable goals for the 2011/2012 season and beyond!
For those who were unable to attend to goal setting session due to being away, other races etc – unfortunately it is hard to schedule so much into the calendar when there is a race just about every weekend. We ask for you to complete the goal setting process as outlined in your toolkit, however should you still like to sit down with a coach you can look at booking in a one-on-one coaching consultation. These can be booked online HERE. We will then be in contact to arrange a time to sit down with one of our coaches.
RACE REPORTS
Sunday saw the last Xosize race in Melbourne and the famous Mooloolaba Olympic Distance in QLD. For once, Melbourne actually fared better than QLD, with the conditions in Mooloolaba reported to be pretty tough, rough swim in the ocean and windy bike and run made it hard for athletes to secure a PB but we still had some fantastic result!
MOOLOOLABA OLYMPIC DISTANCE
Geoff Taylor was the story of the weekend, with his win in Mooloolaba securing him the title of AGE GROUP AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC DISTANCE CHAMPION! This also means he secures a place at the World Championships in Bejing.
Well done also to: Brianna Scarlett, Margaret Mielczarek, Dan Weekes, Sandii Douglas (first olympic distance!) Brett Archbold and Gareth Houley.
XOSIZE – BRIGHTON
The last race of the Xosize series saw some great results from some of our athletes. Well done to Anthony Churchward in securing his first podium taking 3rd place in the mini distance and fastest bike time in his age group, Aleck Patralakis in taking home the series in the mini distance – consistently podiumed all year, Dan Brueckner in recording his fastest run time of the year 20:30min – not bad for a swimmer! New Tri Alliance athlete Ryan Bourke in taking 2nd place in the hotly contested 20-24 age group.
ALBURY WODONGA OLYMPIC DISTANCE
Well done to Adam Murone in completing his first Olympic Distance Triathlon in Albury on the weekend.
His results: Overal Time: 2hr 28min Swim: 27min 15sec Bike: 1hr 17min Run: 43min 35 sec.
“The ride was quite hilly and the run out of transition was 1.5 km steady ascent so all things considered very happy with the result and thoroughly enjoyed the distance.”

Any athlete who is still training for a race, you MUST bring with you your specific training program. As there are a number of different races and race distances we have different training programs for each. If you do not have a training program that you are following you need to contact us on 9645 2223 or email [email protected] – particularly for those doing a Half, as you should be following a specific program.
Remember April is normal our recovery and transition phase so your training is totally different from the majority of the squad. So at sessions you should group together with those who are still training and complete your session.

And every athlete who attends receives an Athlete Sports Pack valued at $125 – this camp is set to be the best yet!!
CBD CYCLES – END OF SEASON SPECIALS!
Our valued Partners CBD Cycles have some fantastic in store specials at the moment – and even better deals for Tri Alliance athletes!
BIKE SERVICE
With the race season finished, this is the perfect time for your bike to get a major overall. After racing your road or time trial bike near the beach all summer, the sea water (salt) has a major effect on your bike. If you don’t get an overhaul on your bike now, then the salt will sit in your bike (no matter how well you clean it!) and start to corrode areas such as the head stem bearings, set posts and cranks. So if you don’t do it now, you are not looking after you bike properly! So if you have spent your hard earnt cash on your bike, make sure it is looked after! Contact CBD to book in a time for a service.
WINDTRAINER
With our windtrainer sessions becoming more and more popular, and we often ‘sell out’ of windtrainers at sessions, don’t be left without a trainer.
Grab yourself a new CycleOps ‘MagTrainer’ for only $199 – best value you will get on a brand new trainer!!
AFTER A NEW BIKE??
Look no further than CBD Cycles. They will happily try and match any deal you receive, so before you get a bike else where make sure you give CBD a call and see what they can offer you! And for those who were keen on a Cervelo (same bike that age group winners Emma Donati and Sarah Grove ride) there is a super deal at the moment – so give them a call to find out!! Or a go fast Giant Trinity – same as the great Geoff Taylor, Greg Nugent and Ollie Allan, then make sure you pop in. Don’t miss out on these great deals!!
So if you haven’t dropped in to see their new look store, make sure you do – and you never know you may just walk out with a new bike!! 😉
