WORD FROM THE COACHESTri Alliance Christmas Party
You have got to love this time of the year. The festive season is in full flight and everyone is ready to hit some festive celebrations – including our Christmas Party held at Elwood Sailing Club on Sunday.

We had 80 athletes, friends and family join us over the afternoon (and into the wee hours of the morning) and plenty of fun was had chatting all things triathlon and beyond. It’s great to see athletes enjoying themselves outside of training and what an amazing group we have that people from all walks of life, can come together and enjoy fun times in the sun. And it’s always great as Coaches to see the lighter side of you all. 🙂

This week is our final regular week of training before Hell Week commences and we then head into our Christmas/New Year Break before resuming full training again on Thursday 2 January.  A reminder that we also have NO swim sessions at MSAC or Northcote this Friday 20 December ahead of Day 1 of Hell Week Challenge on Saturday 21 December.

CANBERRA HALF IRONMAN RESULTS
Well done to our team of 9 athletes who raced in Canberra on Sunday (and subsequently missed our xmas party!) for the Canberra Half Ironman. It ended up being quite a tough day for athletes, it was high 20’s so pretty warm compared to what our team have been training for, and the course for those who have never done it, is quite tough on the bike with a few sharp climbs to take the sting out of the legs and slow average bike times.
Most of our athletes racing were first time at the distance, so it was great to coach them to this point and then help continue their development and improvement at this distance into the back half of this season.

  • Daryl Clemson – 5:07:22 – 37th (40-44) (first time half)
  • Blake Henry: 05:16:30 – 45th (25-29) (30+min PB)
  • Mick Ryan: 05:29:53 – 92nd (30-34) (mechanical on the bike cost him 40min, look out for his next race!)
  • Edward Smith: 05:30:29 – 21st (50-54) (first time half)
  • David Dwyer – 05:39:34 – 45th (45-49) (first time, online athlete) “Thanks Ollie, Emma & Sarah for your help getting me ready for Canberra 70.3. Although my Achilles blew up on the run, I still managed to beat my goal time. The support from fellow TA athletes was much appreciated… Especially when I was in a world of pain near the end. I certainly look forward to racing in the TA colours again!”
  • Andy Wood-Rich: 5:41:41 – 90th (40-44) Read his race report here….
  • Emily Wilson – 05:59:06 – 22nd (35-39) (PB!)
  • David Inglis – 6:58:24 – 146th (40-44) (first time half)
  • Lisa Harrison – 6:25.09 – 25th  (first time half)
