WORD FROM THE COACHES
Its been just over 3 weeks since the last Gatorade Race in Melbourne, 4 weeks post Ironman Melbourne. How quickly time can fly when you are enjoying it with your family and friends and sleeping more than 8 hours a night!
Our Kona Qualifiers and London Sprint and Olympic Distance World Championship Qualifiers have all started their easy build back into training. While most others are still enjoying their downtime while they can, or slowly starting to come out of hibernation when they realise the scales have ticked over another kilo. 😉
It has been great though having a laugh and some fun during our April sessions – particularly for those who have trained hard all year round. And we’re seen some interesting things though over the last week, starting with Coach Greg showing athletes how NOT to change to flat tyre, to our human bicycles at Studley Park on Sunday, and Coach Emma showing her skills with strength and stability on a fit ball and athletes showing Coach Greg what a ‘real’ plank is! 🙂 You can check out pictures from our April Training here.
Our group of athletes coming along to our Group Ride Skills sessions on Tuesday Mornings are learning loads and may just show everyone a thing or two in a few weeks – including safely ‘bumping’ each other on the bike. So keep an eye on the new kids learning from Coaches Ryan and Sarah.
Swim sessions have been fun focused with relays, challenges, drills and more, while at the same time just keeping the body moving. Our swim technique block will start back first week of May, and we encourage everyone to start back with the basics then. If you don’t, you will be playing catch-up.
Our Port Macquarie Ironman Athletes Charlie Nathan, Jeremy Williamson and Tim French have now finished their hard yards of training, with their peak weekends in the bank last week. Port Mac is now just 1.5 weeks away and we can report that they all are looking fantastic for the tough race in Port Mac. We’ll provide details next week on how to follow them online.
Coaches Ollie and Sarah are in QLD for the next 10 days with our Tri Alliance Queensland Squad, kicking off with their Ironman Cairns Long Course Camp this weekend. They will still be contactable during this time, but may take a little longer to respond to you. If your query is urgent, make sure you call the office 03 96452223.
Tickets for our End Of Season Presentation night are going well, with 50 people already booked in for a great night. We’ve had amazing results and achievements from athletes this year, with awards up for grabs including:
- Male and Female Short Course Athletes
- Male and Female Long course Athletes
- Team Player of the Year
- Most Improved Athlete
- New Comer of the Year
- And the most sought after the John Cornish Memorial Scholarship. Currently held by Marina Jurjevic.
So make sure you purchase your tickets online before 1 May (next Wednesday!).
ANZAC DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY – Reminder that tomorrow is a Public Holiday. The office will be closed and there are no coached sessions. We recommend you check our Tri Alliance Victoria Facebook Page to hook up with athletes. We suggest a nice easy morning ride followed by breakfast.
