There are many factors that can influence the hydration status of sports people/athletes, such as social activities, diet, climate, and activity level. And it is important for an athlete to be well hydrated prior, during and post exercise, as dehydration can lead to a decrease in performance and also can increase the risk of heat illness. Research has shown that being dehydrated by a fractional 2% of body weight or greater can have a significant effect on performance.
Tri Alliance and Darryl Griffiths (Mr Shotz) from Shotz Sports Nutrition will be conducting a seminar on fluid loss and hydration. The purpose of this event is to educate athletes about hydration and its importance for producing optimal performance. Weight in this instance will be used in order to determine how much sweat was actually lost during the training session.
WHEN AND WHERE
Tuesday 21st August 2012
Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, level 2 indoor (above pool deck)
This will be a normal wind trainer training session just with the additional hydration education before and after the session
BRING:
All your gear for a normal windtrainer session, including towel, 2 x hydration bottles, training nutrition, AND POST training nutrition.
NOTE: Athletes should bring post training nutrition and clothes to change into if needed as this seminar will conclude at 8.30pm. So bring a post training snack such as proteni shake, energy/protein bar etc.
SCHEDULE:
Long Course:
- 5.45pm arrival and bike set up and 1st weigh in
- 6:00pm-6.15pm athlete briefing
- 6.15pm-7.45pm Wind trainer session undertaken (program TBC)
- 7.45pm-8.00pm 2nd athletes weigh in
- 8.00pm-8.30 Discussion of results and recommendations
Short Course
- 6.00pm arrival and bike set up and 1st weigh in
- 6:15pm-6.30pm athlete briefing
- 6.30pm-7.45pm Wind trainer session undertaken (program TBC)
