END OF SEASON PARTY
The season is coming to an end after Cairns IM and 70.3 IM next weekend. That means it’s time to celebrate another big year with our annual end of season dinner and awards.
Like last year we are back at the Landing, Dockside with a two course dinner and 4 hour drinks package for $100 per person.
There will be all the awards from last year plus the same humorous awards such as the bromance award. Watch this video of our bromance winners from last year Tim Franklin and Cal Lloyd as they talk about their training and preparation for Cairns in 3 weeks. http://youtu.be/LqUjqn748Zk
Join us to help say goodbye to the 2013/14 season and get ready for the 2014/15 season.

NEW TRAINING VENUE
Our Brisbane squad started training last week at the new QUT facility. The feedback has been extremely positive about the move and the different opportunities it presents for members.
The team at Healthstream have actually reduced the weekly cost to $15.50 per week from $16.95 for Tri Alliance members which covers all entry to swim sessions and wind trainer sessions plus a full gym membership at both Gardens Point campus and Kelvin Grove campus.
Or alternatively you can pay 12 months up front for $777 and receive a further 3 months free on top of that which brings the price down to $12 per week. If you have already signed up on the $16.95 price you can change to the cheaper price by contacting manager Andrew Riches on [email protected]
These new offers are only available until June 30th.
They have some great classes on offer at the gym especially the Yoga and Pilates which are very beneficial for triathletes in helping to strengthen the core and reduce the risk of injury. And with winter approaching and the off season it is the perfect time to look at that type of training. Go to http://www.healthstreamqut.com.au/gardens-point_timetable.php http://www.healthstreamqut.com.au/kelvin-grove_timetable.php
Please don’t hesitate to pass on any feedback you have. We welcome suggestions so we can make changes where required.
TRAINING
With the last major event of the season upon us the training will change accordingly. After Cairns we will use the month of June to reduce the overall length and intensity of some of the sessions. It is important to have a period of time during the year to do some easy and enjoyable training. A chance to freshen up mentally and physically for the season ahead.
Sessions such as the Wednesday morning bike and Thursday morning run for June will become more of an easier longer ride and run while the Tuesday morning run and Friday morning wind trainer will still have some intensity attached to it but not at the normal levels we have during the season.
Additionally the swim sessions will have more of a technique focus and on the weekends some longer group rides and runs will be offered. Once we get into July the training will start to focus on some strength work especially for those doing Challenge Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast 70.3IM. After that we have the QTS series and Noosa and our Noosa camp in there also in early October.
E-NEWS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Now that we use the facebook page on a regular basis to update members with the latest news and results we will change the previous blog to a monthly newsletter or e-news.
We will still continue to provide articles and race reports but the facebook page will be the main source of communication on a daily basis to members.
The monthly e-news will take the place of what was the Transitions.
CONGRATULATIONS
A big well done to Laura Moran and Tim Coles firstly on their engagement and also for completing the North Face 100km ultra marathon. Tim has recently joined our coaching team and his passion for running will be a huge benefit for members.
SMILE FOR SMIDDY – TRI ALLIANCE QLD CARBO LUNCH AND WORLDS BIGGEST GARAGE SALE
This Saturday is the Tri Alliance Qld Carbo Lunch at Arrivederci Pizzeria ,1/1 Park Road, Milton QLD 4064, Australia
It is also a fundraising activity for our Smile for Smiddy campaign and a chance to wish all the Cairns IM and 70.3 IM athletes all the best for the race on June 8th. It would be great to see as many people along as possible. Last year’s lunch was a great success and it is something we hope to do every year.
Tickets can be purchased at https://trialliancefundraising.ticketbud.com/tri-alliance-qld-carbo-lunch
We also have the World’s Biggest Garage sale coming up on July 12th. Last year we were able to raise close to $15,000 towards our Smile for Smiddy campaign and this year we would like to at least double that total.
To do that we need volunteers from the squad to assist with a range of tasks including
- Volunteers, Volunteers, Volunteers……
- Setup week (5th July – 11th July)
- WBGS day (12th July)
- Post event (12th – 13th July)
- Product pricing experts
- In particular for antiques and books, however if we have anyone with a speciality area, we are keen to hear from them
- Donations, donations, donations
- We are calling out for more donations – we’re always on the lookout, so we’d love to have some sharing of shout-outs for donations.
- We will have some donation wheelie bins available for anyone interested in putting one of these in their office or home.
- Team Leader positions are available and we are looking for people to put their hands up for these roles.
- Naturally with the event being during the school holiday period, we are keen to encourage teachers and education staff to spend some of their time with us on site to prepare for the event. We are also very keen to encourage children to be a part of this event in a volunteer capacity, so parents assisting with the setup are welcome to bring their children along.
- Contact [email protected] if you’re available and interested in helping out.
