WORD FROM THE COACHES
Yet another recovery week has arrived, it seems like the weeks are rolling in fast as we all begin the countdown to our “A” races! If you need some added motivation consider starting a countdown, change your passwords: “NOOSABABY” “IAMIRON” and or create a playlist of your favourite motivating tunes.
Coming up this weekend we have our Pre Season training camp with Jarrod Evans and in the coming weeks plenty of opportunities to practice your race plans with Hazelwood, Richmond Duathlon & Yarrawonga on the Tri calendar. We encourage you to use one of these races as train through to brush up on your skills, practice your race nutrition and get a handle on those pesky nerves. If you’re not sure which race to do make sure you touch base with one our coaches.
Get ready to dust off your Time Trial Bikes, because after this weekend, the majority of our rides will be on the flat and focusing on race pace efforts. If you haven’t had your bike serviced since you put it in the spare room after the last race, (firstly shame on you!) but now is the time to have a once over by the guys at Bicycles Inc. Haven’t got a TT bike? Why not chat to the boys about the new GIANT range. We have some excited athletes eagerly awaiting theirs in the next couple of weeks and you could be one of them! With prices starting as little as $2,000 (yes you read right!)
Not in the market for a TT bike yet? No worries, an easy way to convert your bike into TT mode is by purchasing a set of Time Trial Bars. The guys at Bicycles Inc can also assist you with these. So make sure you get yourself prepared and keep an eye out on further communication as we change over to our Summer training timetable.
TRI ALLIANCE WELCOMES AMY HIBBERT TO OUR COACHING TEAM
We are excited to welcome Amy Hibbert as our newest member of our ever growing team of experienced and professional coaches. Some of our athletes may have already met Amy over the past couple of weeks as she assisted in Coaching sessions and participating in sessions as an Athlete herself. Amy comes to us with a wealth of knowledge in strength and conditioning, working with novice and intermediate triathletes, is a qualified personal trainer and has also qualified for and raced in the big one – Kona, Hawaii last year. Welcome on board Amy, we look forward to you sharing your knowledge and experience with our athletes. Click here to read Amy’s profile.
UPDATE FROM THE US.OF.A
We have now made our way up into California to South Lake Tahoe. Literally a training ground mecca. The town hovers at 2,000+metres above sea level, and sits alongside it’s own lake – a lazy 115km bike ride around. The ideal training ground for everything outdoors. Don’t take the altitude lightly though, our first ‘coffee shop ride’ with our roomie Brett saw us gasping for air as we climbed our first hill while he coasted up. Nice shock to the system!
We will be training and working from here for the next 2 weeks, then make our way to Kona early October. Unfortunately Ollie’s prep isn’t going as well as planned, still limited to next to no running. So for him his first Kona will be about completing the race and enjoying the atmosphere rather than having a crack at the race as he’d like. This however, will just make him hungrier to come back again. So don’t think this will be the last of his Kona campaigns…..
Marina on the other hand we hear is tracking super well and we can’t wait to catch up with her when we land in Kona. Keep up the great work Marina – see you in a few weeks.
BROOKS DUATHLON RACE 3 – RESULTS
It was a solid effort by the TA crew at Kew Blvd Duathlon last weekend. We secured all the colours and made our presence known!
It was a cold start to the day and not a course for the faint hearted. But let’s just share with you the highlights of the day.
1. The 5 am commute began with a false alarm when coach Emma thought the TA Van battery was flat.
2.We were all very lucky to make it to the venue on time as our usual route was blocked off early and almost every side street leading into Studley Park is a dead end.
3. Xavier lost his gel in the race start and hesitated over whether or not to go back for it. Later he would debate with himself over those lost seconds along with another incident.
4. Xavier gains a mention again for his gutsy choice to give the running mount a shot. Having never tried this move before, he came so close to nailing it but unfortunately lost his shoe with yet another few seconds lost. Having only missed out on 3rd by 7second we are left to ponder what if?
5. Nerves were on high for new comers Emma & Anne Marie who both tackled the course and came away with smiles and great results to start their season.
6. Geoff and Emma both were happy with their performances and take away some valuable insight into how they tracking leading into Age group Worlds in a mere 5 weeks.
7. Coach Ryan tore up the bike course posting the FASTEST bike time for the day but elation soon turned to frustration when he discovered the loss of yet another phone…….lucky a good Samaritan handed it not the local cop shop 🙂
Results:
Geoff Taylor – 1st, 50-55, 1.13.5
Emma Oliver – 1st, 20-24, 1.23.53
Ryan Bourke – 2nd, 25-29, 1.07.57
Emma Donati – 3rd, Open, 1.12.54
Xavier Flynn – 4th, 35-39, 1.10.30
Anne Marie Cooke – 4th, 25-29, 1.47.26
