GATORADE TRIATHLON SERIES SEASON FINALE
What a cracking final race of the 2016/17 Gatorade Triathlon Series. With almost perfect racing conditions it was a fast course and with 60+ athletes racing the atmosphere was buzzing. From the Active Tri to the Sprint, Olympic, Aquabike and Kids we had representation across all. For some it was the final race of their season and for others it was a build race for Challenge Melbourne and a chance to test race strategies. We also had 15 new guys taking part in their first Triathlon having been a part of the Try the Tri program over the past couple of months. We want to congratulate all who took part in this and all races this series making it one of the best yet. The Club finished strongly with the biggest points haul at St Kilda finishing a creditable third in the standings. Next year let's push for top spot!
With so many great performances, stories and results it is hard to list them all but rest assured we are proud of every single athlete who gave their all and make this club what it is. Thank you and we look forward to another successful short course series later this year!
A few athletes have had stellar and break through seasons so please give a nod to the following when you next see them at training:
- Bently Olden - after 4 4th places he managed to snag a podium and finish 3rd in the series in his age group. Also has hopefully Qaulified for the National squad travelling t o Rotterdam later this year.
- Trea Gherardin - In training for Challenege Melbourne she managed to place well in every GTS race and take away 3rd in the series. We shall be watching come the 9th :-)
- Georgina Mervin - A come back season culminating in first place in her age group across the series with some very fast and consistent racing.
- Narelle Crooks - Consistent training and hard work showed rewards with a top 5 in her age group and her best performances to date across these sprint and olympic distances.

CHALLENGE SPRINT
And that is not all for the short course guys....Whilst the long course crew take on Challenge Melbourne Half distance there is also Challenge Sprint on April 9th at St Kilda. This race takes on some of the full swim course at 700m and then a 30k bike to Black Rock and back before a run down to Elwood return of 7k. To sign up and enter check below. Make sure you use voucher code GTS6 for a $20 discount.
CHALLENGE SWIM COURSE UPDATE
For those who did not swim with the squad sunday morning (it was like a pond btw!) the swim course now finishes opposite Cantani Gardens where the Gatorade races normally do. With the start being outside the St Kilda sea baths the course now takes you under the pier inso vastly reducing the long transition that some had feared. For more info check out the interactive course here.
RECOVERY MONTH
For those athletes who have now finished racing for the season it is very important that you take the time to recover. Even though attending sessions dial the intensity back in order for your body to rest and adapt from a hard long season. Once Challenge Melbourne is done sessions will revert to a much easier and relaxed format (apart from those few who are racing Cairns and Port Mac). This is a perfect time for those niggles and sore muscles to get better so that come base training in May you are good to go. April is recovery month so ensure you do this - listen to your body and if you have any questions please chat with your coach.
ST MICHAEL'S SWIM
Due to the continued low numbers at St Michael's tonight is the final session for the time being. We hope to bring back swims when demand is such leading into the new season. We would like to thank those who took the time to email us their feedback on the recent swim changes and sessions at St Michael's. If you do have further comments please email [email protected] with your feedback.
10 SESSION PASSES NOW AVAILABLE
Many members have been asking for a while when these will be out and we are happy to announce that you can now purchase these through your membership portal. Aimed at those athletes who cannot commit to a weekly subscription due to work or family commitments or the session times just don't work as they are on shift. Note that if space is an issue at a session priority will be given to weekly paying members. Annual membership is required to access a 10 session pass. Scanning at sessions is as per normal and your balance will be debited each time before needing to renew once your last is used (an email reminder will be sent when low). . |
